How to Conect cpu cooler Fan that has 3 Pins (holes) on cable on Motherboard that has 4 pins ?
Please I need Help.
How to Conect a cpu cooler Fan that has 3 Pins (holes) in the cable to the Motherboard that has 4 pins or holes ?
I bought the Noctua NH-U9F and the Problem is that the Fan (NF-9-1600)that coming in the Box with this Noctua NH-U9F has only 3 pin to connect to the Motherboard, and my motherboard has 4 Pins or Holes, sorry I don't know what name to use technically!
1.- Do you know if exist some adaptor ? Where do I get it ?
Or noctua make fans with 4 Pins ?
2.-Do I need to change the Backplate of the Motherboard to put the Noctua bacKplate?
*My motherboard is :
ASUS P5LP-LE
*My socket is 775 Intel
*My computer is HP Media center m7350n
Please, Thanks for your time and details information.
first thing first double check your motherboard diagram in the user manual if you don't have the manual look it up online. Do this check to make sure you are trying to plug the cpu fan into the correct spot on the MB (motherboard) these things are fairly standard so it suprises me that you have a cpu fan that does not connect. I would also check that you have the correct fan for your cpu type. If everything seems correct then look at the manual for the MB and see if all the pins on the MB are designated generally you only need 2 so if the + and - on the MB connector pins will match up to the fan's connector you have to simply plug it into the correct pins and leave 1 pin free. If this doesn't solve the problem then you could change the plug on the fan. DO NOT change the MB (if you break it, it costs more). to change the fan you will need to get a new plug and probably a pin punch tool. I would suggest trying radio shack or a small local electronic store for these items and hopefully experienced assistance.
Before doing this please double check everything I mentioned above because it seems very unusual to have a fan that doesn't connect correctly. Another option of course is to buy a different CPU cooling fan.
